IIM Calcutta launches 19-week Executive Programme in FinTech and AI

Kolkata, October 27, 2026: The Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIM Calcutta) has introduced an Executive Programme in FinTech and AI, aiming to equip finance professionals with integrated skills in financial expertise, technology, and analytics as the sector increasingly adopts AI, automation, and data-driven business models.

The 19-week online programme is designed to help experienced professionals bridge the gap between traditional financial knowledge and emerging technologies. The curriculum covers AI, data strategy, digital financial services, and other new technologies, combining case-based learning, faculty-led sessions, and a capstone project to address real-world financial services challenges.

AI and technology adoption in finance

According to EY’s 2025 AIdea of India report, 74% of Indian financial services firms had initiated generative AI proof-of-concept projects, and 42% were allocating budgets to AI initiatives. The report estimates that generative AI could improve productivity in Indian financial services by 34–38% by 2030.

Technology is influencing various segments of financial services, including digital payments, lending, insurance, and wealth management. Applications range from AI-driven credit risk modelling and customer insights in banking, to underwriting and fraud detection in insurance, and robo-advisory and algorithmic trading in wealth management. Digital finance is also seeing the adoption of blockchain, smart contracts, open banking APIs, cloud computing, and robotic process automation.

Risk, responsibility, and regulatory focus

McKinsey’s November 2025 global AI survey found that 88% of respondents reported regular AI use in at least one business function, but nearly two-thirds had not begun scaling AI across their organisations. This highlights a gap between initial adoption and widespread implementation. In financial services, responsible AI adoption requires attention to regulatory compliance, cybersecurity, data privacy, algorithmic bias, and AI governance. RegTech, ethical considerations, and emerging risks are increasingly important, alongside sustainability and financial inclusion as digital services reach new customer segments.

Programme structure and learning outcomes

IIM Calcutta’s Executive Programme in FinTech and AI offers an integrated approach, covering digital payments, lending, insurance, AI and generative AI applications, blockchain, decentralised finance, smart contracts, open banking, data strategy, cybersecurity, cloud computing, automation, AI governance, risk, ethics, and sustainable finance. The programme includes case-based learning, online faculty sessions, live doubt-clearing sessions, and a capstone project. Participants may also attend a one-day networking event at IIM Calcutta and will receive a certificate upon completion.

Industry trends and the need for continuous learning

The World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report 2025 estimates that 39% of workers’ core skills will change by 2030, with AI, big data, and cybersecurity among the most important emerging skills. For finance professionals, continuous learning is becoming essential to evaluate technology-led business models, interpret data, assess risks, and connect innovation with commercial outcomes.

IIM Calcutta is one of India’s premier management institutes, offering executive education and advanced programmes in finance and technology.
