Mumbai, October 15, 2026: Colt Data Centre Services (Colt DCS) and RMZ have begun construction of Mumbai 3, a 64MW AI-ready data centre at their Navi Mumbai campus, following the signing of its first hyperscale client. The project is part of a $1.7 billion joint venture between the two companies to expand data centre capacity across India.
The Mumbai 3 facility is designed to support high-density AI and high-performance computing workloads, utilising advanced liquid cooling, resilient power infrastructure, and high-capacity fibre connectivity. The centre will operate entirely on renewable energy and feature a closed-loop cooling system aimed at achieving near-zero wastewater. More than 700 jobs are expected to be created during construction and operations.
Key features and capacity plans
Mumbai 3 will deliver 64MW of secured contracted power and is fully pre-let to a hyperscale client. The Navi Mumbai campus, which already houses Mumbai 1 and Mumbai 2 data centres, will reach an operational capacity of 86MW upon completion of Mumbai 3, with the potential to scale up to 148MW in the future.
The joint venture between Colt DCS and RMZ, announced in 2024, targets the development of 250MW of data centre capacity across Mumbai and Chennai. Ground preparation for Mumbai 3 began in December 2025, and construction commenced after the first hyperscale customer was signed.
Advanced infrastructure and sustainability
The new facility will incorporate a hybrid cooling architecture that combines traditional air cooling with direct liquid-to-chip cooling. It will also benefit from a 220kV GIS substation on campus and carrier-neutral connectivity with access to high-capacity fibre routes. The data centre’s operations will be powered entirely by renewable energy, and its closed-loop cooling system is designed to minimise wastewater.
Colt DCS and RMZ said the project will support local suppliers, contractors, and service providers, reflecting their commitment to sustainable digital infrastructure and community impact.
Leadership comments on digital growth
Pratap Mane, Country Head DCS, India, said Mumbai 3 is designed to address the evolving needs of customers requiring larger deployments and higher rack densities for AI workloads, strengthening the Navi Mumbai campus as a scalable digital infrastructure platform.
Deepak Chhabria, President, RMZ Digital Infrastructure, stated that the investment reinforces RMZ’s commitment to building advanced data centre and AI infrastructure to support the digital economy’s demands.
Joint venture background
The Colt DCS and RMZ partnership combines Colt DCS’ global data centre expertise with RMZ’s experience in developing and operating infrastructure in India. Colt DCS operates 15 data centres worldwide, with 12 more under development, while RMZ is headquartered in Bengaluru and operates across six Indian cities.
