Tea is the second largest beverage consumed after water on earth. This itself speaks volumes and scope of tea industry globally.   Indians love their chai cuppa from the start of the day, till bidding goodbye to the day. Innumerable rounds of tea are the norm in many households. During pandemic household consumption of tea outperformed consumption of tea outside homes. Reasons are well-known, people were indoors owing to Covid 19 and tea was their constant companion.
Healthy production and higher consumption drive the tea market in India. In 2019, nearly 1.10 million tons of tea was consumed in the country. The market in the country is projected to witness further growth in the forecast period of 2020-2025, growing at a CAGR of 4.2%. In 2025, the tea industry in India is expected to attain 1.40 million tons.
Exports are not significant as India consumes 80% of its tea production. India is the second-largest producer of tea, globally, after China and is a leading consumer of the beverage and accounted for nearly a fifth of the global consumption in 2016. The method and type of tea consumption vary across regions like non-fermented, semi-fermented, fermented, and water-soluble tea are the four major types of tea. The manufacturing process of each of these tea types differ based on chemical, physical, and thermodynamic conditions. Tea processing involves various stages such as weathering, rolling, drying, sorting, and fermentation.    The projections of consistent growth in consumption in Asian and Middle Eastern regions are expected to drive the demand for tea production. This will lead to the growth of the tea processing machinery market.  Major tea processing machines are sorting, rolling, fermenting and drying machine, orthodox machine, fibre extractor, CTC tea processing machine, dryer, and roller. A large variety of teas can be produced on a large scale with the introduction of automation in tea processing industry, without compromising on the quality. Moreover, there is a need to reduce the operation cost by hiring a lesser number of labourers.    CTC Tea Processing Machine and Orthodox Tea Processing Machine primarily mark the global tea processing machine market by machine type. Black Tea, Green Tea, Oolong Tea etc. dominate the global tea processing machine market by tea type and preferred distribution channels are Online and Offline.   In terms of geography, the global tea processing machine market can be divided into five regions: North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Middle East & Africa, and South America. The market in the Asia Pacific is projected to expand at a rapid pace, followed by the Middle East & Africa and Europe during the forecast period.  The scenario reveals that various small-scale tea manufacturers across the globe are sourcing tea processing machines that are more efficient and enable them to scale up their production capabilities. This would lead to novel and technologically advanced tea processing machines, which would create growth opportunity in the coming years.
