New Delhi, October 15, 2026: Indian Boccia player Sachin Chamaria has been selected to represent India in both the BC3 Individual and Pairs events at the Aichi-Nagoya Para Asian Games 2026, after the Sports Ministry approved two Boccia athletes for the national contingent. The Games are set to begin on October 18.
Chamaria, who suffered a severe spinal cord injury in 2008 resulting in quadriplegia, began playing Boccia in 2021. Since then, he has won six consecutive national gold medals and has become an advocate for disability inclusion, promoting the role of sport in empowering people with disabilities.
International achievements and recognition
At the World Boccia Challenger 2026 in Cairo, Chamaria secured a silver medal in BC3 Pairs alongside Sarita Dwivedi and a bronze in BC3 Individual. He previously won gold at the World Boccia Challenger in Bahrain in 2024, becoming the first Indian male BC3 athlete to claim international gold in the sport. His other international medals include silver in the individual event and bronze in pairs at the Cairo Challenger in 2024.
Currently ranked 19th in the world, Chamaria holds the highest world ranking among Indian Boccia players. His achievements have been recognised with the PCI Inspirational Sportsperson of the Year award in 2023 and the Indian Achiever’s Award in 2024.
Advocacy and aspirations
Chamaria, who is also an entrepreneur and disability inclusion advocate, said he is grateful for the opportunity to represent India and hopes his participation will increase recognition for Boccia and encourage more athletes with disabilities to take up sport. “Wearing the India jersey is a responsibility I value deeply, and I will give my best in both events. I hope this opportunity brings greater recognition to Boccia and encourages more athletes with disabilities to take up sport,” he said.
About Boccia and the Indian contingent
Boccia is a Paralympic precision sport for athletes with severe physical disabilities, where players aim to propel red or blue balls as close as possible to a white target ball, known as the jack. In the BC3 category, athletes use assistive equipment such as a ramp and are supported by a ramp operator, with the athlete directing the strategy for each shot.
The Indian contingent at the 5th Para Asian Games (Aichi-Nagoya 2026) has grown to 281 members, including 113 officials such as coaches, support staff, a medical team, and national Paralympic Committee officials, following the latest approvals.
