Proximus Global SVP calls for contextual security to address digital trust deficit in India

Mumbai, October 21, 2026: Joe Emmanuel, Senior Vice President – Products at Proximus Global, has called for Indian enterprises to move beyond traditional authentication methods and adopt contextual risk assessment to address the growing trust deficit in the country’s digital ecosystem.

A recent GSMA report found that 72% of Indians are concerned about online scams and have changed their digital behaviour, highlighting the need for more advanced fraud prevention strategies. Emmanuel’s article, shared via Route Mobile, argues that verifying customer credentials alone is insufficient, and enterprises should combine network, device, behavioural and transactional signals to identify potential risks.

Emphasis on adaptive security

Emmanuel pointed to the scale of India’s digital payments, noting that the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) processed 23.2 billion transactions worth nearly ₹29.9 lakh crore in May 2026. He said risk-based security is essential for balancing fraud prevention with seamless digital experiences.

Regulatory requirements and CPaaS role

The article also referenced the Reserve Bank of India’s 2025 authentication directions, which require at least two distinct authentication factors, subject to certain exemptions, and recognise the importance of risk-based checks using device attributes, location and user behaviour.

Emmanuel highlighted the role of Communications Platform as a Service (CPaaS) solutions in enabling digital trust, stating that integrating identity intelligence with OTPs, voice interactions, transaction alerts and customer warnings can help enterprises deliver timely security interventions and safer customer journeys.

Industry response to digital trust challenges

“Successfully verifying a customer’s credentials does not guarantee a fraud-free interaction. Enterprises must combine multiple contextual signals to identify potential risks,” said Joe Emmanuel, SVP – Products, Proximus Global.

Route Mobile, a listed C-PaaS solutions provider, is part of Proximus Global.
