Lalita Kapilavai opens ‘Kalaprayanam’ art exhibition in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, October 24, 2026: Artist Lalita Kapilavai inaugurated her painting exhibition, ‘Kalaprayanam – A Journey Through Art, Enduring Traditions and Self-Discovery,’ at the State Art Gallery in Hyderabad on Saturday. The three-day event showcases works representing Pahari, Pichwai, Mysore, and Tanjore painting traditions.

The exhibition was opened in the presence of Carnatic musician Dr. Kosuru Seshu Latha, Zaggle founder Dr. Raj N. Phani, and calligraphy artist Sri Parameshwar Raju.

Curated by Dr. Vijay Sharma

Padma Shri awardee Dr. Vijay Sharma, a Pahari miniature painting artist from Chamba, Himachal Pradesh, curated the exhibition. Lalita Kapilavai has been learning Pahari painting techniques and finer aspects under Dr. Sharma’s guidance.

Traditional Indian Art Forms Featured

The exhibition includes paintings inspired by the Guler and Kangra schools, both part of the Pahari tradition that developed after the Basohli style. Works in the Pichwai, Mysore, and Tanjore styles are also on display, each highlighting distinctive artistic features and cultural significance.

Artist’s Perspective

Lalita Kapilavai, who has pursued music and painting since childhood, said the exhibition reflects her personal journey as an artist and the influence of various painting traditions on her work. “Traditional art forms are not just part of our past. They continue to be practised and passed on from one generation to another. Through this exhibition, I wanted people to experience these traditions and understand the skill and dedication involved in creating these paintings,” she said.

Exhibition Details

The exhibition is open to the public on October 25 and 26, from 11 am to 7 pm at the State Art Gallery, Hyderabad. Entry is free.
