Rao Scientific Society (KVRSS) celebrated its 26th Annual Day at the School of Life Sciences Auditorium, University of Hyderabad, Gachibowli, on Saturday night, recognising achievements in science by students and highlighting the intersection of art and mathematics.
The event was attended by Prof. J. Anuradha, Vice Chancellor of the University of Hyderabad, as Chief Guest. KVRSS Secretary Dr. K. Ratna noted the organisation’s growth into a national platform for promoting scientific curiosity, innovation, and excellence among students at various educational levels.
Math Meets Movement performance
A key feature of the programme was “Math Meets Movement,” a dance presentation by P. B. Vaishnavi, Assistant Professor of Dance at GITAM, Hyderabad, and her team. The performance explored the relationship between mathematics and movement, demonstrating how art can be used to communicate scientific concepts.
Awards for research and innovation
The Society presented its 26th Annual Research Awards to 12 students under the age of 30 for exceptional work in fundamental sciences, with three awards each in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics. This year, 167 applications were received from more than 100 institutions across several states.
The 15th SPARK Innovation Awards, aimed at encouraging scientific innovation among school students, attracted over 200 project entries. Forty projects were shortlisted for the finals in Hyderabad, with eight awards—two each in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics—presented to the winners.
SMART Awards and outreach initiatives
The 6th SMART (Science Meets ART) Awards challenged students to design board games based on scientific or mathematical concepts, receiving more than 250 entries. Three winners were honoured for their creative approaches to making learning interactive and enjoyable.
KVRSS also highlighted its Science Innovation Centre and Mobile Science Lab, launched in 2021–22, which have reached over 23,000 students in four years by delivering hands-on science education directly to schools.
