IIT Roorkee launches Batch 5 of Applied Data Science & AI certificate programme

National, October 08, 2026: The Continuing Education Centre (CEC) at IIT Roorkee has announced the launch of Batch 5 of its Post Graduate Certificate Programme in Applied Data Science & AI, with classes set to commence on January 10, 2027. The programme is designed for working professionals aiming to enhance their practical skills in data science, artificial intelligence, and analytics.

The six-to-eight-month course will cover topics including Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Generative AI, Natural Language Processing, Big Data, Time Series & Networks, Data Visualisation, and Cloud Analytics. Participants will engage in over 75 hours of lectures and more than 60 hours of practical experience, using tools such as Python, R, SQL, and NoSQL.

Programme structure and learning format

The curriculum features hands-on learning through datasets, case studies, a capstone project, and hackathons. Classes are scheduled on Sundays from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, and an optional four-day campus immersion at IIT Roorkee is available. The programme is supported by service partner Jaro Education.

Eligibility and certification details

Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in any discipline with at least 50% aggregate marks. While one year of work experience is preferred, it is not mandatory. Upon successful completion of the assessment and attendance requirements, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion from IIT Roorkee.

The programme is tailored for applications in sectors such as finance, healthcare, and energy, aiming to equip professionals for data-driven decision-making. Dr. Partha Pratim Roy, Faculty at IIT Roorkee, said the course is structured to combine conceptual understanding with practical application, enabling participants to work with real-world data and emerging AI technologies.
