Hyderabad, October 29, 2026: BASF, in partnership with the CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (CSIR-IICT), Hyderabad, is conducting the BASF Kids’ Lab from October 26 to 31, 2026, aiming to engage 1,150 municipal school children in hands-on chemistry education and climate action awareness.
The initiative, held at CSIR-IICT, targets children aged 8 to 12 years and is designed to foster curiosity in science while highlighting the importance of sustainability and environmental protection. The Hyderabad edition is part of BASF India’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts and benefits from the support of the Education Department, Government of Telangana, which assisted in identifying and facilitating participation from government schools.
Interactive Experiments and Global Reach
The BASF Kids’ Lab program features interactive experiments and activities that help children explore scientific concepts and understand their role in addressing real-world challenges. Developed by BASF, the program has been implemented in more than 30 countries and has reached over 62,000 school children in India since its 2004 launch.
Relaunched in 2023 with a renewed focus on climate protection, the program has since been conducted in metro cities such as Chennai, Navi Mumbai, Mangalore, Bengaluru, and Delhi, as well as in rural and tribal areas of Nashik district. Through age-appropriate modules, students learn about environmental sustainability and how individual actions can contribute to a more sustainable future.
Leadership and Collaboration
Kim Höffken, Managing Director of BASF Digital Solutions Private Limited, said the program aims to create engaging learning experiences that encourage curiosity and critical thinking, connecting chemistry to sustainability and climate action. “We are pleased to collaborate with CSIR-IICT in bringing this unique learning journey to students in Hyderabad,” Höffken said.
Dr. D. Srinivasa Reddy, Director of CSIR-IICT, highlighted the value of the initiative for government school students, noting its alignment with CSIR’s Jigyasa programme and the shared commitment to experiential science education. He also thanked the Education Department, Government of Telangana, for its support in facilitating school participation.
Student Participation and Impact
Gouthami, a student from Government High School, Peteri, described the session as enjoyable and educational, singling out the water purification experiment as her favourite activity. She expressed her intention to share her new knowledge with friends and family and to apply lessons on climate action in daily life.
The BASF Kids’ Lab program reflects BASF’s ongoing commitment to advancing chemistry education and supporting communities through engagement initiatives that combine scientific learning with sustainability awareness.
