Chennai, October 23, 2026: Vikram Solar announced that its 9 GW N-type TOPCon solar cell manufacturing facility at SIPCOT Industrial Park, Gangaikondan, Tamil Nadu, is on schedule to commence production of its first cells in December 2026. The company said the plant represents a major milestone in its backward integration strategy, with further expansion plans in the pipeline.
The new facility will supply high-efficiency TOPCon cells for most of Vikram Solar’s module manufacturing, aiming to reduce reliance on imported cells. The company plans to increase its cell manufacturing capacity to 12 GW in the future.
Expansion plans at Gangaikondan campus
The cell manufacturing plant is the second phase of Vikram Solar’s integration roadmap at Gangaikondan, following the inauguration of its 6 GW module plant in August 2026. The next phase includes a board-approved 9 GW ingot and wafer facility, targeted for commissioning in FY29.
The integrated campus spans nearly 200 acres and is expected to create over 2,000 direct and indirect jobs, according to the company.
ALMM enlistment and supply strategy
Vikram Solar intends to seek ALMM List-II enlistment for cells produced at the new facility. The company said the majority of its module production will be supplied by the high-efficiency TOPCon cells manufactured at the Gangaikondan plant.
