New Delhi. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has summoned former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik in connection with a scam in a case. The CBI has sent summons to him asking him to answer some questions in connection with the alleged insurance scam in the union territory. Reacting to the development, Malik told the ‘news agency’ that the CBI has asked him to be present at the agency’s guesthouse on Akbar Road here for ‘some clarifications’. However, this claim has not been confirmed by the CBI.
Former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik has confirmed about the CBI’s summons. He said, “They want some clarification, for which they want my presence. I am going to Rajasthan, so I have given them the dates of April 27 to 29, when I will be available.” He was questioned by the CBI last year in connection with the alleged scam.
Case related to insurance scheme
The central agency had registered two FIRs in connection with Malik’s allegations of corruption in the award of contracts for a group medical insurance scheme for government employees and in construction work involving the Rs 2,200-crore Kiru hydroelectric project in Jammu and Kashmir.
In 2018, he was sent to Jammu and Kashmir as governor.
Satyapal Malik was sent to Jammu and Kashmir as Governor in 2018. It was during Malik’s tenure that the central government removed Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir. He was then sent to Meghalaya as governor, but in the meantime he claimed that he was asked to clear two files during his tenure as governor of Jammu and Kashmir between August 23, 2018, and October 30, 2019. A bribe of Rs 300 crore was offered.
