Tiger Reserves: Tourists On Safari May Soon Get Insurance Cover | Mysuru News

Mysuru: The forest department is planning to extend insurance coverage to tourists taking safari in forest vehicles inside tiger reserves of Bandipur and Nagarahole.

As hundreds of visitors regularly visit tiger protected areas like Bandipur and Nagarahole, authorities are not taking any chances. Though there have not been any untoward incidents inside the tiger reserves so far, officers said they want to extend financial support in case of any incidents.
Bandipur director P Ramesh Kumar and Nagarahole director Harshakumar Chikkanaragund confirmed to TOI that they have been planning and discussing with insurance companies to extend insurance coverage to those going on safari inside the tiger reserves.

Over 96,000 apply for Gruha Lakshmi scheme
Madikeri: In all 96,036 women have applied to get benefits under the Gruha Lakshmi scheme in Kodagu. There are 1,31,863 eligible beneficiaries in the district of which 96,036 beneficiaries have applied for the scheme. The women and child welfare department has set a target of achieving 100% coverage. Though the registration process started on July 14, owing to server problems in the first few days, the target is yet to be achieved. However, the registration process is going on smoothly in the centres identified by the department like Bapuji Center and Gram One Centre.
CNNL to release water for irrigation for 60 days
Mandya: The Cauvery Neeravari Nigam (CNNL), which had stopped the release of water to Visvesvaraya Canal, has decided to release the water for irrigation purposes based on the order issued by the state government. During the Irrigation Consultative Committee (ICC) meeting, it was decided to release water for 60 days in four different intervals from August 9. However, the CNNL authorities have advised the farmers not to cultivate long-standing crops. The first instalment of water will be released till August 24, the second instalment from September 9 to September 23, the third instalment from October 8 to October 23 and finally the fourth instalment will be released from November 7 to November 22, according to a press release from K Raghuraman, member-secretary, KRS Reservoir Irrigation Consultative Committee and superintending engineer.
