New Delhi, The civil aviation industry in India has emerged as one of the fastest growing industries in the country during the last three years. India has become the third largest domestic aviation market in the world and is expected to overtake UK to become the third largest air passenger market by 2024. India’s passenger traffic stood at 199.60 million in FY20 (April-October 2019). To cater to the rising air traffic, the Government of India has envisaged increasing the number of operational airports to 190-200 by FY40 from current 103 airports.

Likewise, Cochin International Airport, the first solar powered Airport in the country with a capacity of 50 million passengers per annum, has thyssenkrupp Elevator’s 18 Elevators, 6 Escalators, and 3 Moving Walks.

The Pune airport is being revamped and expanded to handle the growth and improve handling capacity. The 42,000 sqm new terminal building would be integrated with the existing one and it will sport thyssenkrupp Elevator’s 15 Elevators and 8 Escalators. Additionally, Guwahati’s, LGBI Airport’s, upcoming terminal, will be powered by thyssenkrupp Elevator’s 25 Elevators, 10 Escalators, and 2 Moving Walks. The new terminal will spread across 77,500 sqm of land and shall be able to handle traffic of 2,900 domestic and 200 international passengers at a time.

Furthermore, Delhi Airport will be equipped with 90, A-VDGS (Advanced Visual Docking Guidance System) from thyssenkrupp. Similarly, Hyderabad Airport too will sport 33, A-VDGS. Not to mention, Delhi Airport Project will have an additional fleet of 22 PBBs from thyssenkrupp very soon, concluded Mr. Mehan.
