Ranchi: In a first, state temple priests will be covered under a ₹5 lakh health insurance scheme soon, the Jharkhand Rajya Hindu Dharmik Nyas Board (Jharkhand Hindu Religion Trust Board) said after its board meeting on Friday.
The board decided to set up three Vedic schools in the first phase to promote Sanatan Dharma and its preachings.
Talking to TOI on Saturday, board member, Rakesh Sinha said the survey for identification of priests across the temples in the state will be rolled out soon to empanel the existing priests after which modalities for covering them under the health insurance scheme will be worked out.
Sinha said they have also launched a drive for registration of temples with the board. “The state has around 688 temples but only 140 are registered with the board. We have asked all the temples to register themselves at the earliest. Many have started applying for it,” he said.
“Ranchi, Dumka and Deoghar have been chosen for setting up of the Vedic schools which will be affiliated with a recognized university offering Vedic studies. The schools will offer degree certificates to the graduates,” Sinha said, adding that the board remained defunct for several years due to the apathy of the previous government. A few months back, the state government, a part of the INDIA bloc, began revamping the boards and corporations by filling up vacant posts.
The key mandate of the Hindu religious trust is to act as the guardian for all the temples in the state and work towards their proper functioning, Sinha added.
