Mr Tapan Singhel, managing director and CEO of Bajaj Allianz General Insurance, has been elected as the chairman of the General Insurance Council (GI Council), with the post to be headed for the first time by a private-sector insurance figure.
He will replace Mr Anjan Dey, chairman and managing director of the state-owned Oriental Insurance Company (OIC), who is leaving the position at the end of January 2023.
The GI Council is the official representative body and self-regulatory organisation of the non-life insurance sector comprising 31 insurance companies and 11 reinsurers.
