THE Sunday Mail online news editor Tawanda Musarurwa scooped two accolades at the 2023 Insurance and Pensions Media Awards on Wednesday.

The awards are organised by the Insurance and Pensions Commission (IPEC), in partnership with the National Social Security Authority (NSSA).

Musarurwa walked away with the Inclusive Insurance Reporter of the Year and the Overall Winner awards.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, the guest of honour, Finance and Economic Development Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube, said the media should simplify the insurance and pensions industry reporting, and hold the sector to accountability.

“It is critical for journalists to unpack the seemingly complex insurance and pension matters for better understanding by the public,” said Prof Ncube.

“Meanwhile, by virtue of being the fourth estate, the media should continue to hold the industry to account to ensure that insurance companies and pension funds perform as per the provisions of the law and the set standards.”

IPEC commissioner Dr Grace Muradzikwa said: “At IPEC, our interest is to see increased coverage of insurance and pensions-related issues and improvement in the quality of the reporting.

“To this end, we will continue to call on the media to cover insurance-related matters and to capacitate journalists so that the quality of the coverage is beyond reproach.”
