Delhi, India:
Pioneering med-tech firm BD India has partnered with the Government of India’s famend analysis group, Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology (RRCAT), for sterilization of one of its medical units, Venflon Pro by electron beam (e-beam) know-how, at RRCAT’s Indore facility. The e-beam facility is totally designed and developed by scientists and engineers of RRCAT. It is the solely such facility that’s permitted by regulatory authorities for irradiation of class A and Class B medical units in India and can also be ISO – 13485 licensed.
This pivotal partnership is a defining step towards medical machine producers realizing the advantages of e-beam know-how in the nation. It also will probably advance India’s native tools processing infrastructure, thereby enabling the realization of the Prime Minister’s imaginative and prescient of Atmanirbharta (self-reliance).
Commenting on the initiative, Atul Grover, Managing Director, BD India/South Asia, stated, “Electron beam sterilization has proven to be safer, more effective, and an efficient processing technology for medical devices. Cognizant of this and aligned with our purpose of Advancing the World of Health, we are partnering with RRCAT team to explore these benefits for Venflon Pro, for the Indian market and exploring to use the facility for global supplies as well, which are currently being sterilized at an overseas facility.”
Dr S V Nakhe, Director, RRCAT, stated, “Electron beam is the technology accepted worldwide for sterilization of medical devices. RRCAT started working on the development of an industrial linear accelerator in 2012 and commissioned the electron beam radiation processing facility in 2020. The institute’s development of an indigenous e-beam technology for sterilizing medical devices locally is in alignment with the national goal of ensuring affordable, accessible healthcare for all Indians.”
Currently, medical machine sterilization is dominated by two applied sciences – ethylene oxide (EO) fuel and gamma radiation – which account for 48% and 41% of the market, respectively. Electron beam has benefits over each these processes in phrases of enhanced security and safety and minimal ecological results.
RRCAT’s distinctive e-beam sterilization know-how ensures an economical, scalable, and environment friendly platform for processing medical units and prescribed drugs in India. With this know-how, medical units could be sterilized of their last packing through the use of the penetrating energy of high-energy electrons.
Being electricity-based, electron beam (E-beam) is an environment-friendly know-how, making certain most security and safety. Another key benefit of this know-how, as in contrast to EO and Gamma, is its excessive dose charge and quicker processing time, with no residue affect.
The Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology (RRCAT) is a unit of the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India. Since its inception in 1986, RRCAT has been engaged in pursuing analysis and improvement (R&D) in non-nuclear frontline analysis fields relating to particle accelerators, lasers, and related applied sciences.
