Today, the Reserve Bank launched the info1 associated to the 2021-22 spherical of its annual survey on laptop software program and data know-how enabled providers exports. The survey2 collects particulars on India’s exports of software program providers {laptop providers and data know-how enabled providers (ITES)/business course of outsourcing (BPO) providers} as per kind of exercise, on-website/off-website nature of providers, nation of vacation spot and 4 modes of provide.

For 2021-22 spherical of the survey, 6,218 software program export corporations had been contacted, of which 2,074 corporations, together with most of the massive corporations, responded. The responding corporations accounted for 89.4 per cent of the entire software program providers exports3 through the 12 months (Table 1).

Highlights:

  • India’s exports of software program providers (excluding exports by way of business presence) are estimated to have elevated by 17.2 per cent to US$ 156.7 billion throughout 2021-22 (Table 2).

  • Computer providers continued to account for over two-thirds of whole software program providers exports.

  • BPO providers accounted for practically 84 per cent of exports of info know-how (IT) enabled providers (Table 3).

  • Private restricted corporations accounted for 60 per cent of the entire exports of software program providers whereas exports by public restricted corporations declined through the 12 months (Table 4).

  • The United States and Canada had been the highest vacation spot for software program exports with 55.5 per cent share, adopted by Europe, of which, practically half was attributed to the United Kingdom (Table 5).

  • The US greenback remained the principal invoicing foreign money for software program exports, adopted by the Euro and Pound sterling (Table 6).

  • The share of off-website mode of exports of software program providers continued to extend and stood at 88.8 per cent in 2021-22 as in contrast with 82.8 per cent 5 years in the past (Table 7).

  • In phrases of modes of supplying providers, the share of Mode-1 (cross-border provide) in India’s exports of software program providers elevated additional to 80.9 per cent in 2021-22; the share of different three modes of supply (viz., consumption overseas; business presence; and presence of pure individuals) declined (Table 8).

  • Total exports of software program providers, together with providers delivered by overseas associates of Indian corporations, elevated by 15.9 per cent throughout 2021-22 and stood at US$ 171.9 billion; native software program business by overseas associates stood at US$ 15.2 billion, with the United States being the main vacation spot (Tables 8, 9 and 10).
