The global professional services firm EY has recommended that 50% of the staff in every office operated by India’s four public-sector general insurers be deployed in marketing.
If the proposal was accepted, there could be a huge influx of insurance marketing personnel in the market as nearly 20,000 employees of the government-owned general insurance companies are recommended to be deployed in that role, reported Indo-Asian News Service quoting the EY report.
EY has been hired by the four government-owned non-life insurers—National Insurance, Oriental Insurance, United India Insurance, and The New India Assurance—to suggest restructuring their operations.
The four insurance companies have about 40,000 employees in over 8,000 offices across the country.
EY says that its report was written after interviews with over 100 stakeholders, visits to over 18 locations and over 60 offices, and studies of 81 data points and benchmarking elements.
