An advert for life insurance featuring a picture of one of Britain’s most prolific serial killers has been criticised by a victim’s relative.
DeadHappy, which has a reputation for crass publicity stunts, placed a picture of Harold Shipman alongside text reading: “Life insurance: Because you never know who your doctor might be.”
Shipman is believed to have killed hundreds of people over two decades before his arrest in 1998.
Tim Hill, who had a relative murdered by Shipman, described the advert, which was published on Facebook, as “despicable and unacceptable”.
Kathryn Knowles, the founder of the insurance broker Cura, added that it was “absolutely disgusting” and promised to report it to both the Advertising Standards Authority and the Financial Conduct Authority.
