Muscat – There were 37,000 traffic accidents reported in the country in the first half of 2023, including 7,763 serious and 29,600 minor ones, a drop of 1.7 percent from the same period in 2022.
According to the unaudited data issued by the Capital Market Authority, there has been a decrease in the total amount of compensation paid by 15 percent, as its total value exceeded RO11.7 million compared to RO13.9 million in the first half of 2022, and the number of claims reached around 41,000, compared to 44,000 claims in 2022.
CMA said that the claims were distributed among minor traffic accidents (30,000 claims), with a total value of compensation amounting to RO5.7 million, a decrease of 19 percent.
As for serious accidents that resulted in material damage, the value of their compensation exceeded RO3.7 million with the number of claims being around 5,000.
Serious accidents that resulted in injuries and medical treatment expenses during the first half of this year recorded a five percent decrease by 5,600 claims, with a compensation value of more than RO2 million, while the value of compensation for serious accidents that resulted in deaths amounted to about RO275,000, with 191 claims, an increase of 18 percent compared to the first half of 2022.
