Noida International Airport holds SAKSHAM 2026 full-scale crisis drill

Noida, October 29, 2026: Noida International Airport (NIA) conducted a full-scale crisis preparedness exercise, SAKSHAM 2026, on October 29, bringing together airlines, government authorities, emergency response agencies and district administration to test emergency readiness and coordination.

The exercise, held in accordance with ICAO guidelines, simulated an airport emergency scenario to evaluate the airport’s preparedness, emergency response systems, and inter-agency coordination. Participants included IndiGo, Airport Authority of India (AAI), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), UP Police, Airport Medical Service, District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), District Health Department, UP Fire & Emergency Services (UP F&ES), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and hospital partners.

Emergency response and coordination tested

Key activities during SAKSHAM 2026 involved activating emergency alerts, conducting firefighting and rescue operations, and mobilising emergency response teams and resources. The drill also assessed traffic management and green corridor facilitation for the rapid transport of casualties to designated medical facilities.

Communication protocols, information sharing, and response timelines were evaluated to determine how effectively the various agencies could collaborate under time-sensitive conditions. The exercise allowed for a review of existing procedures and identification of areas requiring further attention.

Stakeholder participation and review

Nitu Samra, Chief Executive Officer of Noida International Airport, said the exercise was essential for testing procedures and strengthening coordination among agencies. “Safety and preparedness are central to airport operations. In an emergency, an effective response depends on how well different teams and agencies coordinate with one another. Exercises like this allow us to test our procedures, understand where improvements may be needed and work closely with the relevant authorities to ensure we are prepared to respond when required,” Samra said.

The airport stated that regular drills form part of its ongoing efforts to review emergency response procedures and enhance readiness among all stakeholders.
