A man who sped away from gardai as he had no insurance was convicted of the offence but was not disqualified due to special circumstances.
Ryan McLoughlin, Rantogue, Aghacashel, Co Leitrim pleaded guilty to having no insurance on April 22, 2022 at Corrachuill, Drumshanbo.
The court heard the defendant attempted to avoid gardai by speeding off and entering the Lough Allen Hotel centre in Drumshanbo.
Solicitor, John Anderson, said Mr McLoughlin is a young man who lives in a rural area and is on social welfare as a carer for his mother. He is seeking work as a chef and needed his licence.
Judge Vincent Deane said on the basis that he needed his licence for work he would not disqualify him. He was convicted and fined €300 for the offence, allowing six months to pay. Charges of no tax and failing to produce insurance were taken into consideration.
