KLEF Recognized for Excellence in Renewable Energy

Hyderabad, 04 July 2026 (BFN Bureau): KL Deemed to be University (KLEF) has secured the First Runner-Up Award in the “Best Application & Uses of Renewable Energy” category at the 10th CII National Energy Efficiency Circle Competition 2026. The event took place on 2–3 July 2026 at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi.

This competition featured 142 organizations and over 350 delegates from across India. The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) awarded KLEF for its outstanding implementation of renewable energy solutions and energy-efficient campus management practices.

A Commitment to Sustainability

The award was accepted by Mr. D. Seshi Reddy and Dr. K. J. Brahma Chari, both Associate Deans at KLEF. They received the honor in the presence of notable figures, including Shri P. Shyam Sunder from the Bureau of Energy Efficiency and Mr. Abhishek Gupta from Energy Efficiency Services Limited.

KLEF has developed one of India’s most sustainable university campuses, boasting an installed renewable energy capacity of 3,854.81 kWp. This capacity generated 5.90 million kWh of clean electricity in the 2025–26 fiscal year, meeting 50.9% of the campus’s total electricity needs. The university’s renewable energy initiatives include rooftop solar plants and hybrid solar-wind systems.

Significant Growth in Renewable Energy

Over the past four years, KLEF has seen a remarkable increase in renewable energy generation, rising from 1.99 million kWh in 2022–23 to 5.90 million kWh in 2025–26—an impressive growth of 196%. The university also reduced its Energy Performance Index (EPI) by 34%, avoiding approximately 4,189 tonnes of CO₂ emissions in 2025–26 alone.

Chancellor Er. Koneru Satyanarayana emphasized, “Sustainability is not merely an initiative at KLEF; it is an integral part of our institutional vision.” He noted that this recognition reflects the university’s commitment to building net-zero carbon campuses and inspiring future generations.
