Hanoi, October 29, 2026: JCB International Co., Ltd., the international operations subsidiary of JCB Co., Ltd., and Hanoi Metro One Member Limited Liability Company have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to introduce JCB contactless payment on Hanoi’s urban railway network.
The collaboration will see the launch of JCB transit in early 2027, allowing JCB Cardmembers to use their contactless cards or compatible devices to tap directly at metro fare gates. This initiative aims to provide a faster and more convenient travel experience for metro users in Hanoi.
Contactless payment for metro users
The introduction of JCB transit is part of JCB’s broader efforts to expand contactless payment solutions in public transportation and to support the development of cashless payments in Vietnam. The service is expected to benefit international visitors, particularly travelers from Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and other markets, by enabling them to use their existing JCB payment methods without the need for separate transit tickets or cash.
Launch planned for early 2027
JCB International and Hanoi Metro will continue to work together to complete preparations for the rollout, with the service targeted for launch in early 2027. Takumi Takahashi, Executive Vice President of JCB International Co., Ltd., said the collaboration aims to provide greater convenience to JCB Cardmembers and contribute to a modern, cashless public transportation ecosystem in Vietnam.
JCB’s global presence
JCB is a global payment brand and a major credit card issuer and acquirer in Japan, with an acceptance network of about 72 million merchants worldwide and more than 181 million cardmembers, mainly in Asian countries and territories.
