IndianOil felicitates International Bronze Winning Indian Chess Team from Yerawada Prison

seventh November 2022, New Delhi: S M Vaidya, Chairman, IndianOil, felicitated the six inmates from Yerawada Prison, Pune, who secured Bronze medal for India on the lately concluded Intercontinental’ Chess for Freedom’ Online Championship for Prisoners, organised by World Chess Federation (FIDE). This was the primary time the event witnessed the participation of Indian Prison Teams, who competed with greater than 85 groups from 46 international locations. The taking part Indian groups have been groomed and skilled underneath IndianOil’s “Parivartan- Prison to Pride” initiative which is the brainchild of Mr Vaidya. IndianOil, in affiliation with the All India Chess Federation, chosen the Indian groups for this Intercontinental Championship by way of the primary ever “Parivartan – Prison to Pride Online Chess Tournament” whereby 20 Indian prisons took half. Teams from Pune and Prayagraj Prisons booked their berth for the Championship, whereas the Women & Juvenile groups from Tihar Jail certified of their respective classes.

Since its launch on fifteenth August 2021, IndianOil has lined 37 Prisons spanning 20 states and 5 Union Territories, teaching over 1750 inmates in three phasesThrough this outreach, teaching amenities are being supplied together with the tools and kits to the members. International-level sportspersons from IndianOil are supervising the programme.
