Bengaluru, October 9, 2026: Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) has secured the 11th position globally and the top spot in India for the impact of its teaching cases, according to the Financial Times’ 2026 assessment of business schools. The ranking evaluates the influence of academic work on business and policy practice, with IIMB recognised for the widespread adoption of its case material internationally.
The Financial Times’ 2026 assessment covers practitioner publications, policy impact, external grant funding, and teaching cases, with IIM Bangalore ranking 11th worldwide in the teaching cases category. The Institute’s cases were used by 680 higher-education institutions across nearly 50 countries during 2024 and 2025, reaching academic institutions, faculty, students, companies, and professionals.
Global reach and case adoption
The teaching cases measure assesses the production and use of case studies for classroom learning. For 2026, the Financial Times combined data from five international distributors—Case Centre at CEIBS, Harvard Business Impact, IESE Publishing, Ivey Publishing, and The Case Centre—using a methodology based on The Case Centre’s Impact Index.
IIMB published 26 cases through Harvard Business Impact in both 2024 and 2025. Case sales increased from 140,457 in 2024 to 184,879 in 2025, marking a growth of nearly 32%. Demand was distributed across cases addressing a range of practical business problems rather than focusing on a single discipline.
Leading cases and authors
Among the bestsellers were ‘redBus: Art and Science of Product Management’ co-authored by Prof. Shankhadeep Banerjee, Chairperson, Information Systems; ‘Testing Marketing Hypotheses at WSES’ by Prof. Dinesh Kumar, faculty of Decision Sciences; and ‘Customer Analytics at Bigbasket – Product Recommendations’, co-authored by Prof. Dinesh Kumar. Other strong-selling cases included ‘Apollo Hospitals: The Journey of Digital Transformation’ co-authored by Prof. R Srinivasan, Chairperson, Center for Digital Public Goods; and ‘Shodh – Market Research for Economy Housing (A)’ by Prof. Avinash G Mulky, retired faculty in Marketing.
Additional cases in demand covered topics such as demand forecasting in healthcare, employee engagement, HR analytics, and generative AI. The 2024 submissions also addressed market issues including business model innovation, technology adoption, sustainability, and organizational change. Notable cases included ‘Business Model Innovation at LOG9’ by Prof. Sreelata Jonnalagedda, ‘AuctionBazaar.com: Lubricating the NPA Disposal Process’ by Prof. R Srinivasan, ‘FieldAssist: Enabling Sales Performance and Incentive Design for Strategic Alignment of Frontline Salesforce in FMCG’ by Prof. Debolina Dutta, and ‘Ecosystem Development for Digital Public Goods: The Case of Jugalbandi’ by Prof. Shankhadeep Banerjee.
Assessment methodology and impact
The case impact component of the FT Rankings includes schools that submitted at least one case for distribution in the previous two years and cases published during the past seven years. The analysis covers activity from July 1 to June 30, considering the number of unique cases and authors, adoption across organizations, geographic reach, and total student usage. These measures are normalized using z-scores and combined into an overall impact score, with results scaled and weighted by market share to determine the final ranking.
Institute perspective
Prof. U Dinesh Kumar, Director-in-charge, IIMB, said the global adoption of the Institute’s cases reflects the demand for teaching material that is rigorous, contemporary, and grounded in real business challenges. “The value of research is strengthened when it engages with the problems businesses face and subsequently informs decision-making. At IIMB, we see cases as an important way of making that connection by bringing research, managerial experience and real business problems into the classroom,” he said.
