People looking at healthcare.gov for insurance coverage should take note of an important date.
Open enrollment in the Healthcare Marketplace began Nov. 1 and runs through Jan. 15. However, if you want coverage to start Jan. 1 or have changes to make before that date, you need to enroll by Dec. 15. If you enroll or make changes the Dec. 15 cutoff and pay your first premium, coverage will go into effect Jan. 1.
For those who miss the Dec. 15 date but enroll by Jan. 15, 2023 coverage will start Feb. 1, as long as they pay their first premium.
Those who do opt to enroll may find their premiums are lower for the coming year.
According to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, changes through the American Rescue Plan and Inflation Reduction Act means 80% of customers will be able to find plans for $10 or less per month after tax.

People shopping for health insurance coverage on HealthCare.gov – even those who currently have coverage – should enroll or reenroll logging onto HealthCare.gov and CuidadodeSalud.gov or call 1-800-318-2596 to fill out an application. To find local help from a Navigator or certified application counselor, or to be contacted by a Marketplace-registered agent or broker, consumers should go to https://www.healthcare.gov/find-assistance.
