Three men have been arrested in Gurgaon for cheating people after promising a loan on the basis of an insurance policy, police said Wednesday.

On July 28, 2022, a man lodged a complaint at the cyber crime police station alleging that he was lured into taking a loan based on an insurance policy and that Rs 71 lakh was fraudulently withdrawn from his bank account.

According to Cybercrime ACP Vipin Ahlawat, a police team on Tuesday arrested Jitendra Kumar and Pradeep, from north Delhi, and Devendra Tyagi from Indirapuram in Ghaziabad.

It was revealed that Jitendra had provided his bank account for the transaction in return for a 10 per cent commission, the police said. Devendra and Pradeep had lured the complainant by talking to him using voice-changing devices, they added. The accused allegedly defrauded the man by promising a loan and other benefits.

Jitendra and Pradeep face six charges in Maharashtra, Dehradun and Chhattisgarh, while Devendra Tyagi faces one charge in Chhattisgarh related to similar fraud. The three accused have cheated nearly 100 people by using insurance and loan schemes, according to the police.

The police have seized five mobile phones and a voice-changing device from the accused.
