Deloitte India-FICCI report projects consumer economy to reach US$1.9 trillion by 2030

New Delhi, August 4, 2026: Deloitte India, in collaboration with FICCI, has released a new report forecasting India’s consumer economy to approach US$1.9 trillion by 2030, driven by artificial intelligence adoption, changing consumer behaviour, and integrated commerce ecosystems.

The report, titled “Consumer Trends IGNITEing Growth and Governance,” examines the structural changes impacting the country’s FMCG, retail, and e-commerce sectors. It highlights the increasing importance of technology-led innovation, resilient operations, and trust-based governance as businesses adapt to evolving market conditions.

AI and digital ecosystems reshape consumer behaviour

According to the report, Indian consumers are becoming more informed, digitally connected, health-conscious, and less brand loyal. Factors such as transparency, quality, and clean-label products are playing a greater role in purchase decisions. The rise of omnichannel retail, e-commerce, and quick commerce is further transforming shopping habits, while AI-powered recommendations, creator ecosystems, and digital platforms are influencing how products are discovered and bought.

Key trends and policy developments

The study identifies resilient supply chains, AI as a core business operations layer, instant and integrated commerce ecosystems, sustainability, and the global expansion of Indian consumer brands as major trends shaping the future of the sector. It also provides an overview of evolving policy and regulatory developments, including food safety and labelling, packaging sustainability and EPR, GST, consumer protection, data privacy and DPDP implementation, AI governance, influencer marketing, legal metrology, and emerging e-commerce regulations.

Ease of Doing Business and recommendations

The report stresses that Ease of Doing Business remains essential for sustained growth, noting ongoing reforms but also persistent challenges such as overlapping regulations, fragmented implementation, and compliance complexity. Recommendations include regulatory harmonisation, risk-based compliance frameworks, enhanced digitalisation of compliance processes, and more predictable policy implementation.

Additional recommendations for businesses and policymakers outlined in the report include accelerating AI adoption, modernising supply chains, strengthening sustainability initiatives, expanding the global presence of Indian consumer brands, improving regulatory preparedness, and establishing robust AI governance frameworks.

Industry perspective

“India’s consumer economy is expected to approach US$1.9 trillion by 2030, opening up substantial opportunities for businesses that can respond to rapidly evolving consumer expectations and changing market dynamics. Growth will increasingly be shaped by how effectively organisations use AI, build resilient operations, participate in connected commerce ecosystems and translate consumer insights into differentiated experiences,” said Anand Ramanathan, Partner & Consumer Industry Leader, Deloitte India.
