People who don’t get affordable health insurance through their employer or public programs like the Oregon Health Plan can enroll in health insurance that often comes with financial help.

Sunday, Jan. 15, is the last day for open enrollment through Oregon’s Health Insurance Marketplace at oregonhealthcare.gov.

The website allows people to preview 2023 plans, find out where to get free local help from insurance experts and see if the coverage offered by their employer is considered affordable. If work-based health insurance isn’t considered affordable, you may be eligible for financial help.

The website includes information about both the Oregon Health Insurance Marketplace and Oregon Health Plan, and it allows people to start an application for either one.

“As the cost of living soars, health insurance remains consistently attainable for many thanks to the financial help through the Marketplace,” Oregon Health Insurance Marketplace Director Chiqui Flowers said in a press release. “Health insurance is essential to protect both your health and your financial future, making it one of the most valuable purchases you will make.”

Since open enrollment began Nov. 1, 2022, more than 138,000 people have enrolled in health insurance for 2023. More than 80% of Oregonians who have applied for financial help have been found eligible. These savings reduce the monthly premiums to have health insurance, according to Oregon Health Authority.
