Haveri: For many months now, farmers of Haveri district, which is the place chief minister Basavaraj Bommai has been elected from, have been praying for the disbursal of insurance for the crops they misplaced owing to heavy rain. Their prayers have now been answered. The CM launched Rs 16.5 crore, which might be distributed amongst 9,204 farmers throughout the district. Although the farmers throughout the district had paid the premium for the insurance in 2018-19, this was not mapped to the survey carried out by the authorities to verify possession of property, and farmers. Consequently, farmers had been unable to declare insurance for the losses they incurred. Notwithstanding the various demonstrations they held demanding compensation, their pleas went unheeded.
Sources mentioned that multiple lakh farmers had paid premium towards crop insurance in 2018-19 throughout Haveri district. However, the 9,204 farmers had been denied the compensation owing to discrepancies within the knowledge.
General secretary of the Haveri district items of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha, and Hasiru Sene, Mallikarjun Ballari mentioned, “We have been waiting for years to see the farmers reimbursed for their losses. The CM, also the MLA for the Shiggaon-Savanur assembly constituency, has released the funds. We are thankful to the CM for his gesture, and his concern for the welfare of farmers.”
