A man who was detected driving without insurance twice in the space of five months was disqualified from driving for five years.

David Rees, Keelogue, Eslinbridge, Co Leitrim pleaded guilty to the offences which occurred on January 29, 2022 at Glebe Street car park, Mohill, and on July 2, 2022 at N4 Drumsna.

On the first occasion Mr Rees was detected by Garda Burke driving into the car park at Glebe St in Mohill. He had no insurance displayed on his car, the tax had expired in 2019 and there was no NCT disc displayed.

He undertook to produce his documents in Carrick-on-Shannon Garda Station within ten days but failed to do so. The court heard that the tax and NCT matters were paid by fixed charge notice.

On the second occasion Mr Rees was stopped by Garda Mannion at N4 Drumsna. The tax on Mr Rees’ car had been out for 1,035 days and the NCT expired in February 2020.

He had no valid insurance displayed and admitted having no insurance or licence.

He failed to produce any documents at Mohill Garda Station and summonses were issued.

Judge Vincent Deane convicted and fined him €300 and disqualified him from driving for two years for having no insurance at Glebe St, Mohill, taking the other matters into consideration.

He convicted and fined Mr Rees €500 for the second offence of no insurance and disqualified him for five years, taking into consideration the remaining matters.
