Bandhan Life highlights shift to structured income payouts in life insurance

Mumbai, October 23, 2026: Bandhan Life has noted a growing trend in the life insurance sector, with products increasingly offering policyholders flexible payout options that combine immediate lump-sum benefits with regular income streams for nominees. The insurer said this evolution aims to help families address both urgent financial needs and long-term income security.

According to Bandhan Life, the option to split the death benefit can provide greater peace of mind for policyholders who are concerned about their nominees’ ability to manage large sums. Structured payouts allow loved ones to access funds for pressing expenses while ensuring a predictable income over time.

Flexible payout options for families

Satishwar B., Managing Director and CEO of Bandhan Life, said that true financial protection involves not just the amount left behind, but also making it easier for beneficiaries to use the money wisely. “Receiving a large sum at once can feel overwhelming, especially for someone who has never managed significant investments. Structured payouts can provide immediate support while ensuring a predictable income for the future,” he said.

Modern term insurance products now allow policyholders to choose how the death benefit is paid, including as a lump sum, regular income, or a combination of both, depending on product and policy terms. For example, a policyholder may opt to make 25% of the benefit available immediately, with the remaining 75% paid as regular income over a defined period, subject to policy conditions.

Policy continuation features add protection

Bandhan Life also highlighted that some income-oriented life insurance products, such as participating income plans, may offer policy continuation features. In these cases, if the life assured passes away during the policy term, scheduled benefits may continue to be paid to the nominee, and future premiums may be waived according to policy terms.

These features are designed to provide greater predictability for families at difficult times, ensuring that financial support continues without requiring immediate investment decisions from nominees.

Bandhan Life’s approach to insurance

Bandhan Life stated that its mission is to make life insurance more accessible and appealing, addressing the gap in coverage for nearly 95% of India’s population. The company said it is leveraging technology to tailor insurance offerings to the needs of emerging India and is committed to narrowing the protection gap in the country.
