AIRDA advocates for integrated tourism ecosystem at FAITH Conclave 2026

New Delhi, July 20, 2026 (BFN Bureau): Vikram Lalvani, Chairman of the All India Resort Development Association (AIRDA), called for a more integrated tourism ecosystem during the FAITH Tourism Conclave 2026. He emphasized the need for connecting policy, infrastructure, hospitality investment, and destination development.

Speaking at the conclave, which took place on July 16-17 in New Delhi under the theme “Incredible India: Invaluable Economics,” Lalvani highlighted the importance of vacation ownership and organized leisure hospitality in fostering demand and supporting regional economies. He noted that India recorded nearly 2.95 billion domestic tourist visits in 2024, suggesting that domestic leisure tourism should be recognized as economic infrastructure capable of driving investment and employment in regional markets.

Policy Support for Leisure Destinations

Lalvani called for differentiated policy support for various leisure destinations, pointing out that different markets such as wildlife, wellness, pilgrimage, heritage, and remote resorts have unique infrastructure and operational needs. He mentioned that the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 initiative, which focuses on destination-centric development, has sanctioned 53 projects worth ₹2,208.31 crore across the country.

Quote from Vikram Lalvani

Vikram Lalvani stated, “India’s tourism opportunity cannot be unlocked through room supply alone. Domestic leisure must be recognised as economic infrastructure, supported by policies designed around complete destinations rather than individual assets. Vacation ownership adds a further advantage by creating predictable demand, enabling investment in emerging markets and supporting stable regional employment.”
