Mumbai: Tata Sons is likely to name a new chairman as early as Thursday, people familiar with the matter said.
Tata Sons has called a board meeting at this evening, although no agenda for the meeting had been announced. While it is not clear if a Tata group insider or an outside would be named, a vice-chairman’s post could be created .
The $100 billion conglomerate ousted its chairman Cyrus Mistry in October and named Ratan interim chairman, sparking a bitter public spat.
The developments come even as Tata Consultancy Services Ltd, India’s biggest software services company, reports its results. TCS head N. Chandrasekaran has been widely speculated to be one of the leading contenders for the role.
A Tata Sons spokesman on being asked about the new Tata Sons chairman being announced on Thursday and whether Chandrasekaran was likely to be named, declined to comment on speculation.
