Hyderabad, October 28, 2026: The Rotary Club of Hyderabad Mavericks has concluded its yearlong PEP-UP Well-Being Project, a ₹33 lakh mental health initiative that engaged 3,207 students across eight government and private schools in Hyderabad. The closing ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, October 31, 2026, at G. Narayanamma Institute of Technology and Science, Shaikpet.
PEP-UP, implemented under Rotary Global Grant GG2573626, is described as the largest student mental health programme in Telangana to date, providing awareness, screening, prevention, counselling, and early intervention for students aged 13 to 21 years.
Screening and awareness outcomes
According to project data, 2,686 students underwent mental health screening at Level 1. Of these, 2,112 were categorised as Green, while 574 were identified as Orange or Red, indicating a need for further attention. The screening categories are intended to guide additional assessment and support, though they are not clinical diagnoses.
Mental health awareness sessions reached 3,207 students, covering topics such as emotional well-being, common psychological challenges, and the importance of seeking help. The programme’s multi-stage approach included awareness sessions, standardised screening, further assessment, counselling, and post-screening reviews.
Participating institutions and partners
The eight participating institutions were Sri Sahithi High School, ZPHS Kothaguda, New Bloom High School, ZPHS Kondapur, Samskruthi High School, Government Junior College, G. Narayanamma Institute of Technology and Science, and ZPHS Peddamangalaram.
The Rotary Club of Hyderabad Mavericks served as the host club, with the Rotary Club of Livermore as the international sponsor and Manojagrithi as the implementing partner.
Showcase event and teacher engagement
The October 31 showcase event will highlight the project’s achievements, share its implementation model, and promote discussion on integrating mental health support into educational institutions. A poster competition on mental health for teachers will also be featured, aiming to encourage educators to foster supportive learning environments.
Focus on early intervention and support
PEP-UP emphasised coping strategies such as deep breathing, mindfulness, journaling, and seeking support from trusted adults. The initiative aimed to reduce stigma, promote early identification of mental health concerns, and introduce students to the role of counsellors and professional support services.
