Global technology giant Google has finally launched its own UPI-based-payment-app Tez in India. The app is available for download through Google Play Store for Android as well as App Store for iOS platforms.
Built on the UPI platform, Tez allows users to make payments of any scale straight from their bank account for free. The app currently has partnership with four banks – Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, and State Bank of India (SBI) through which it can process payments across more than 50 UPI enabled banks.
To make or receive payments or paying bills the app, a user has to link the Google Tez app to his bank account. Using Cash Mode on the app will help the user shield his personal data during money transfers.
Cash Mode makes use of ultrasound waves and connects two phones using the phone’s microphone and speakers. According to the company, this mode of payment is completely secure and a can be done without sharing neither a user’s phone number nor any personal/account details.
Google has also announced ‘Tez for Business’, an app which will enable merchants to engage directly with customers. ‘Tez for Business’ lets merchants get their own business channel to also offer consumers different offers apart from making or receive payments.

Payments can be made to anybody who accepts payments via UPI, be it merchants or a contact.
Transactions are protected by Google’s Tez Shield. Transations can be made only after it is verified using a UPI PIN. Even the app can be secured with a Google PIN or a screen lock.
Using Tez lets you win huge rewards by way of Scratch Cards of upto Rs 1,000 which can be won with each eligible transactions. Users also stand to win Rs 1 lakh every week with ‘Tez Lucky Sundays’.
Compatible with most smartphones be it an Android phone or an Apple device running on iOS.
Supports eight languages such as English, Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Marathi, Tamil, and Telugu.
The app will receive regular updates incorporating better features and improvements.
