PUNE: Power management company Eaton today announced that it has collaborated with Life-Lab, a Pune-based NGO, to create a virtual science lab for school students as part of its comprehensive corporate social responsibility (CSR) program.
The science lab tool will help more than 40,000 economically-challenged students across all the states of India where Life-Lab operates.
Compared to a traditional lab, the virtual lab would help students conduct experiments, measure physical parameters, and explain the science behind experiments in a new and interesting way. The initiative is a part of Eaton’s larger and long-term program to promote science education among school students in India. “Eaton has always demonstrated phenomenal passion and commitment towards building stronger communities,” said Lewitt Somarajan, founder, Life-Lab. “The Eaton teams worked closely with us to understand our needs and provide innovative and relevant solutions.”
Life-Lab approached Eaton to evaluate the possibility of developing an innovative, technology-driven solution to make science education more exciting for their students. The idea was to create a virtual lab using external sensors and a mobile-based application for calibration and measurements.
The project was taken up by participants of Khoj an employee-driven internal platform at Eaton’s Engineering Center (EIEC) in Pune, to stimulate innovation through focused learning and problem-solving activities. This virtual lab is user-friendly, portable, open source (on Android platform), multilingual and scientifically accurate tool that also ensures minimum power usage.
“At Eaton, we aspire to build strong communities that will pave the way for a sustainable and healthier future,” said Nitin Chalke, managing director, Eaton India.
“Our employees play a crucial role in reinforcing this commitment by demonstrating dedication and bringing value to Eaton-sponsored community projects. Together we strive towards achieving Eaton’s vision of improving people’s lives and the environment and our promise to making what matters work.”
Life-Lab provides innovative solutions and comprehensive interventions to empower economically-challenged students who have an aptitude for science. Their goal is to make learning fun for these students. Eaton has been supporting Life-Lab since 2011.
