MUMBAI: Saikiran Krishnamurthy, who quit as head of Flipkart’s supply chain unit Ekart in January after the ecommerce giant named Kalyan Krishnamurthy as its CEO, is headed back to consultancy firm McKinsey & Co where he had been director.
“Saikiran is joining us as part-time adviser. We are very happy to have him,” a McKinsey spokesperson said .
Krishnamurthy was one of Flipkart’s most high-profile hires when it was aggressively wooing top lateral talent after raising over $2.6 billion in 2014-15.
Industry sources said McKinsey, which in recent years has lost over 50 consultants — including 14 of its India leadership team to the ecommerce/startup sector — is open to bringing back some key hands. It is in talks with another former consultant, currently an ecommerce head, to get him back on board, they said.
“McKinsey is quite singular in the way it manages and maintains alumni relations. Saiki going back will be a gain for the firm. He is a solid guy,” said Anjali Bansal, former MD at TPG Growth and a McKinsey alumnus herself.
