NEW DELHI: Delhi International Airport (Pvt) Ltd (DIAL), a subsidiary of GMR Group, today launched its first edition of Skylympics, a first-of-its-kind aviation-only sporting event.
The three-day event was inaugurated by the national sports icons – Shooter- Gagan Narang and Cricketer Nikhil Chopra.
“Skylympics has brought together the entire Delhi Airport community comprising of thousands of members on a platform. These includes – airlines, retail concessionaires, ground handlers, cargo companies and aerocity developers among others,” added the release.
A total of 22 teams comprising of 770 players are participating to play a total of 411 matches. Skylympics features six popular sports – Cricket, Athletics, Volleyball, Badminton, Football and Table Tennis.
Each sport will have round robin format where five to six teams will play against each other in one pool. Sporting icons Zaheer Khan and Dhanraj Pillay are expected to come for the closing ceremony on March 5, 2017, release said.

India is now eying to strengthen its position further in the global aviation map. We truly believe that Sports is a great equalizer and it reinforces the power of community to make everything possible,” Srinivas Bommidala, Chairman Airports, GMR Group, was quoted in the release.
Skylympics is organised in association with Zoom Air and supported by radio partner Red FM, award partners – Tupperware, Central Mall, Lite Bite Foods, F&B – Oberoi Flight Services, Hospitality partners -Skygourmet, Logistics partner- Shuttl, Medical partner-Medanta and THOT media.
