Benchmark equity indices, BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty50, opened higher on Monday following firm global cues.
The 30-share Sensex climbed over 200 points in early trade after opening 99.87 points, or 0.35 per cent, up at 28,340.39.
NSE Nifty index opened 44.50 points, or 0.51 per cent, higher at 8,785.45. Later, it hit 8,800 level for the first time since October 2016.
In the Nifty50 pack, GrasimBSE 0.49 % (up 1.73 per cent), Hero MotoCorpBSE 1.48 % (up 1.40 per cent), ICICI BankBSE 2.36 % (up 1.33 per cent), Tata MotorsBSE 0.41 % DVR (up 1.32 per cent) and Aurobindo PharmaBSE -0.81 % (up 1.11 per cent) were among the top gainers in early trade.
However, ACCBSE 1.30 %, Dr Reddy’s Labs and HCL TechnologiesBSE -1.02 % were trading lower by 1.26 per cent, 0.72 per cent and 0.32 per cent, respectively, around 9.20 am (IST).
All the sectoral indices on BSE were trading higher in early trade with BSE Oil & Gas index gaining the most 0.91 per cent, followed by Bankex (up 0.87 per cent), Power (up 0.82 per cent), Telecom (up 0.81 per cent) and Auto (up 0.81 per cent).
Asian peers Hang Seng, Nikkei and Shanghai were trading higher by 0.64 per cent, 0.21 per cent and 0.47 per cent, respectively, around the same time.
On Wall Street, the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 186.55 points, or 0.94 percent, to close at 20,071.46 on Friday, the S&P 500 gained 16.57 points, or 0.73 per cent, to 2,297.42 and the Nasdaq Composite added 30.57 points, or 0.54 per cent, to 5,666.77.
