After December 10 old Rs 500 notes to be barred at railway counters, metro

New Delhi: In another rollback announced by the government, the old Rs 500 notes which were made valid at railway, metro and bus ticketing counters till December 15 has now been cut short to December 10.
As per earlier guidelines issued by the government, the old Rs 500 notes were to be accepted for utility bill payments as well as at railway ticketing counters and counters of government. However, Rs 500 old notes were barred at petrol, diesel and gas stations operating under authorisation of public sector.
Earlier, while demonetising old Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes the government had allowed their use for utility bill payments for 72 hours.
Previously, the government had extended the deadline twice before it was to expire on November 24. However, the government had again extended the use of old Rs 500 notes for key utility bills like electricity and water, school fees, pre-paid mobile top-up, fuel purchase and airline ticket booking.
