MAHAR REGIMENT MOUNTAIN EXPEDITION FLAGS OFF TO MOUNT KAMET

    Sagar :  To mark the Platinum Jubilee of glorious saga of valor and courage in the service of the Nation, valiant soldiers of the Mahar Regiment of the Indian Army embark on a daunting and challenging task of summiting the Mount Kamet peak.

    The elite group of mountaineers selected from all Battalions of the Mahar Regiment to attempt the daunting Mount Kamet Peak, which is third highest peak and the highest mountain open to climbers. The peak is situated on the Indian side of the Indo-China border and carries the reputation of being a challenging peak due to  its bone chilling temperatures and bellowing winds across the exposed rocky terrain at such high altitude. However, the team is confident of summiting the Peak with textbook precision and it has been preparing for the expedition for last 18 month, with members participating in various IA and joint expeditions.

    Lt Gen B S Negi, UYSM, YSM, SM, VSM**, PhD, GOC-in-C Central Command flagged off the expedition by handing over the traditional Ice axe with National flag, Indian Army flag and the Regiment flag in the presence of Lt Gen Gyan Bhushan, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, VSM (Retd), Maj Gen Manoj Oka, VSM, Colonel of the Mahar Regiment and other distinguished guests. The General exhorted the soldiers to empower themselves to conquer new horizons & be the strength of a vibrant Indian Army. He also expressed his concern over the fragile environment and ecological system in the Himalayas and advised the team to take all measures and care to preserve the same during the expedition.
