The proposal for an elevated railway corridor, which has been conceptualized by the Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC), is expected to speed up travel time between Panvel and CST from nearly 90 minutes to 50. Mr. Niranjan Hiranandani, MD, Hiranandani Communities described this as a positive development for the Panvel – Navi Mumbai region. Work on the project is expected to commence from next year, he said. The opening of the Karjat – Panvel section for passenger traffic, as also doubling of tracks in the section will enhance rail connectivity with Pune as well, he added.
The railway terminus at Panvel, along with existing and planned connectivity to Pune and Mumbai will translate into Panvel and its surrounding region enjoying some of the best rail-connectivity in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). The existing Panvel – CST sector has the Central Railway (CR) operating around 15 services during peak hours. The MRVC proposal will mean 25 services on its elevated, high-speed corridor during peak hours. The MVRC proposal includes trains being air-conditioned, this would be a definite boost to real estate in the Panvel – Navi Mumbai region, said Niranjan Hiranandani.
