The benchmark Sensex recovered on Thursday, helped by buying in select blue-chip stocks amid mixed global cues. Still, investors treaded cautiously as they try to assess the long-term fallout of Britain’s vote to leave the European Union. Metal, realty, consumer durables, PSU, capital goods, healthcare, FMCG and banking stocks showed up in the green.
The stock exchange was closed on Wednesday on account of Eid-Ul-Fitr.

3:30pm: The S&P BSE Sensex closes 0.13%, or 34.62 points, higher at 27,201.49, while the Nifty 50 closes 0.02%, or 1.95 points, higher at 8,337.90. Lupin rises 7.83%, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd rises 7.83% and Hindustan Unilever Ltd (HUL) rises 2.82%.
3:21pm: The S&P BSE Sensex is trading 0.14%, or 36.97 points, higher at 27,203.84, while the Nifty 50 is trading 0.04%, or 3.15 points, at 8,332.80. Shares of Lupin Ltd are trading 6.10% higher, while those of Hindustan Unilever Ltd (HUL) are up 3.18%. Shares of Lupin rose after the company said in a notice to BSE that its Goa plant inspection done in July 2015 is now closed.
3:10pm: The S&P BSE Sensex is trading 0.05%, or 13.17 points, lower at 27,165.83 points, while the Nifty 50 is trading down 0.14%, or 11.35 points, at 8,324.60.
Cadila Healthcare Ltd rises 2.8% to Rs.344. According to BSE, Zydus entered into a sub-licensing agreement with The Medicines Patent Pool for Hepatitis C medicine, Daclatasvir.
2:30pm: BSE Sensex rises 89.35 points, or 0.33%, to 27,256.65, while the Nifty gains 20.25 points, or 0.24%, to 8,356.20.
2:25pm: Mukesh Ambani group media companies are trading higher on the back of higher volumes. Infomedia Press Ltd jumps 16%, TV18 Broadcast Ltd rises 1.1%, Network18 Media & Investments Ltd rises 6.2%.
2:20pm: Sugar stocks are trading higher. Oudh Sugar Mills Ltd rises 5%, Upper Ganges Sugar & Industries Ltd rises 17%, Sakthi Sugars Ltd rises 9.3%, Uttam Sugar Mills Ltd 5%, Triveni Engineering & Industries Ltd 3.1%, Balrampur Chini Mills Ltd 3%, Andhra Sugars Ltd 6.7%, Dhampur Sugar Mills Ltd 5%.
2:15pm: Tata Steel Ltd falls 4.6% to Rs.318.80 ahead of its board meeting on Friday to finalise details. According to news report, the company may mull putting sale of port Talbot and UK operation on hold for some time.
2:05am: Axis Bank Ltd rises 1% to Rs.544.90. The government on Tuesday permitted Axis Bank to raise foreign shareholding to 74%, entailing investment of around Rs.13,000 crore.
2:00pm: Reliance Communications Ltd rises 1.3% to Rs.52.80. The stock gained seven out of eight trading sessions. Since 24 June it gained 13.2% and so far this year it fell 40%.
1:50pm: NBFC’s trading lower on profit booking. Ujjivan Financial Services Ltd falls 1.8%, Equitas Holdings Ltd falls 0.6%, Muthoot Finance Ltd falls 3.2%, Bharat Financial Inclusion Ltd falls 0.8%, Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services Ltd falls 0.3%, Shriram Transport Finance Ltd falls 1.03%.
1:40pm: BSE Sensex rises 49.43 points, or 0.18%, to 27,216.30, while the Nifty gains 3.35 points, or 0.04%, to 8,339.30.
1:30pm: BGR Energy Systems Ltd rises 12.3% to Rs.133.4 after the company said in a notice to exchanges that it got order of Rs.2,300 crore from Apgenco.
1:20pm: UB Group stocks trading higher. McDowell Holdings Ltd rises 14%, United Breweries Holdings Ltd rises 20%.
1:10pm: Adlabs Entertainment Ltd rises 5% to Rs.84.15. The company said in a notice to BSE that its arm Adlabs Entertainment Limited received Locational Clearance for Special Township from Government of Maharashtra.
1:00pm: Tata Steel Ltd falls 1.1% to Rs.330.50. According toBloomberg report Sajid Javid, the UK business secretary, will fly to Mumbai, India, to hold talks with the senior management of Tata Steel on the sale process of the company’s UK steel business, which has been put on hold after the Brexit vote.
12:50pm: Tea & Coffee companies are trading higher. Tata Coffee Ltd rises 2.7%, Harrisons Malayalam Ltd rises 6.3%, Jay Shree Tea & Industries Ltd rises 5.2%, Mcleod Russel India rises 3%, Andrew Yule & Company Ltd rises 2%, Tata Coffee Ltd rises 2.7%, Tata Global Beverages Ltd rises 1.3% .
12:40pm: Insecticides India Ltd rises 2.6% to Rs.495.05. The company has entered into an agreement with Momentive Performance Materials Inc., USA for getting the product ‘AGROSPREC MAX’ on an exclusive basis for the territory of India.

11:10am: Ashok Leyland Ltd falls 1.7% to Rs.90.75. On 1 July the company reported a 7% increase in total sales at 11,108 units in June month as compared to 10429 units a year ago.

The promoters of the debt-strapped Jaypee Group managed to salvage a deal that involved the sale of the conglomerate’s cement assets to UltraTech Cement Ltd, but lost control of the holding company Jaiprakash Associates Ltd to lenders. Jaiprakash Associate Ltd rises 4%, Jaiprakash Power Ventures Ltd rises 6%, Jaypee Infratech Ltd rises 7%, Ultratech Cement Ltd rises 6%.
9:35am: The 30-share S&P BSE Sensex is currently trading higher by 56.27 points, or 0.21%, to 27,223.14, while the Nifty 50 of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) falls 2.25 points, or 0.03%, to 8,333.70.
9:30am: Punjab National Bank rises 3.4% to Rs.117.75 after its arm PNB Housing Finance Ltd on Tuesday filed its draft proposal with the market regulator for a Rs.2,500 crore initial public offering (IPO).
9:25am: The Indian rupee on Thursday opened higher but soon erased most of the gains and is trading little changed against the US dollar at 67.45, up 0.01% from its previous close of 67.46, from its previous close.
9:20am: India’s 10-year bond yield was trading at 7.37%, compared with Tuesday’s close of 7.39%.
9:15am: The dollar weakens to ¥100.88 from ¥101.00 in late trading on Wednesday. The euro slips to $1.1090 from $1.1098.
9:10am: Oil prices extend gains, with benchmark US crude futures rising 25 cents to $47.69 a barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Brent crude adds 19 cents to $48.99 a barrel in London.
9:05am: Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 index slips 0.2% to 15,343.37 as the yen strengthened, making the country’s exports costlier overseas. South Korea’s Kospi climbs 1% to 1,972.41 and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng rises 0.9% to 20,683.90. The Shanghai Composite Index edges 0.2% lower to 3,011.95 and Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 adds 0.4% to 5,215.90.
