Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday appealed to farmers not to rush with sowing kharif crops, and wait till June 26, when more rain is expected.
“Though the monsoon has arrived in most parts of Maharashtra, the rainfall is not adequate for kharif sowing. Sufficient rain is expected in parts of Nashik, Vidarbha and a couple of districts in Marathawada after June 26,” Mr. Fadnavis said in a statement. He said that arrangements for adequate stocks of kharif seeds have been made.
The increase in the prices of seeds sold through Mahabeej has been stopped by the government, he said, adding that the prices of cotton and soyabean seeds will remain as the price rise is negligible.
He also said that farmers, who purchased seeds at higher rates from Mahabeej, will be reimbursed the amount, and urged them to keep the purchase receipts
