Subros fire forces Maruti to advance annual shutdown plan

New Delhi: India’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki Ltd on Thursday said it will conduct its bi-annual maintenance ahead of schedule, as it struggles with supply disruptions after a fire at Subros Ltd, one of its largest vendors.

“This will enable the closure period to be utilized for arranging supply of components, both from M/s Subros Ltd as well as from other sources, and result in higher production volumes after the closure,” the company said in a statement.

The company’s factories will now shut down between 6 June and 11 June as against a planned shut down between 27 June and 2 July.

It added that car production, to the extent that components are available, is continuing at the Gurgaon plant from the second half of 1 June.
