Bhopal : Lok Sabha Speaker Smt. Sumitra Mahajan laid foundation stone for crying 500-seater backward class girls hostel at Indore today. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan presided over the function. Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Thawarchand Gehlot was guest of hour on the occasion.

The Chief Minister said that the state government is making constant efforts for extension of educational facilities. It is his effort to ensure that no child remains deprived of education due to paucity of money and facilities. Chouhan said that from next academic session, the state government will bear fee of talented students in medical, engineering and other higher education institutions. After obtaining job, concerning students will repay this fee. Benefit of the scheme will be given to students of all sections of society. The Chief Minister said that scholarships will also be given to students of general class.

Chouhan said that special attention is being paid to water and environmental conservation in the state. He said that human race will face extinction if trees and water are not saved. A drive will be launched to plant saplings of fruit-bearing trees on both the banks of Narmada river from Dev Uthani Gyaras. If land of a farmer is acquired for plantation, he would be given rent as compensation as per government rates. This rent will be paid till trees start bearing fruits.

Lok Sabha Speaker Smt. Sumita Mahajan said that water conservation is the crying need of the hour. State-wide campaign should be launched for water conservation. She said that rain water harvesting and water conservation campaign at Indore have started yielding encouraging results. She said that parents of remote areas cannot send their daughters for education. Construction of such hostels will remove concern of such parents now and they would send their daughters to pursue higher education.

Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Thawarchand Gehlot said that crying hostel of backward class girl students is being constructed at Indore by his ministry. He said that a kabaddi stadium would also be constructed at Indore. Besides, hostels will be constructed in other areas of the state as well as per need. Gehlot said that a training and all-round welfare centre for disabled persons costing Rs. 50 crore would be constructed at Bhopal. Besides, Rs. 50 crore National Sports Centre is also being constructed at Gwalior. Factory to produce artificial limbs for disabled persons is being established at Ujjain. The Union Minister said that a 100-seater hostel will be constructed at every divisional headquarters in Madhya Pradesh.

Backward Classes and Labour Welfare Minister Antar Singh Arya said that Shramodaya Vidyalaya for children of labourers will be opened on Dhar road at Indore. The state government has decided to set up one 100-seater post matric hostel each and 50-seater girls hostels in 50 districts. In view of increasing education facilities, 500-seater post matric backward class girls hostels will also be constructed at Bhopal, Jabalpur and Gwalior.
