Air traffic expands 21% in April; Jet Airways slips on market share


New Delhi: Domestic air passenger traffic grew 21% in April, helped by cheaper fares, according to data released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Friday

The month saw 7.93 million passengers fly, compared with 6.55 million a year earlier.

IndiGo increased its market share to 38.7% in April from 38.4% in March. Jet Airways saw a significant market share drop to 18.9% from 20.2%—its lowest in many years.

Air India’s market share was up to 15.1% compared with 14.7% the month before.

SpiceJet also increased its market share to 12.9% from 12.8% as did Vistara which moved to 2.3% from 2%.

GoAir also increased market share from 8.3% to 8.5%.

AirAsia’s market share fell to 2.1% from 2.2%.

SpiceJet had the highest flight occupancy at 93.2% while Vistara at 77.9% was the lowest but improved from its previous month’s low of 74.7%.
